Help Sheet: Easy CD Creator

Burn an Audio CD

The audio files to be burned must be in .WAV format and must be 44.1 kHz @ 16 bits. You cannot burn a MP3 directly to an Audio CD. You must first convert the file to .WAV using CoolEdit or Winamp.

If your files are not 44.1 kHz 16bit .WAV format, open them in CoolEdit and use the Edit -> Convert Sample Type function to change them. For help with this process, press F1 in CoolEdit to launch the help file.

Launch Easy CD Creator (typically Start -> Programs -> Adaptec -> Create CD)
Choose "Audio CD"

Navigate to the location of your audio files using the folders in the top left pane. Drag the .WAV files from the top right pane down to the bottom pane. The status bar at the bottom of the screen will indicate the remaining time left on the CD (you can record either 74 or 80 minutes of audio on a CD depending on the type of CDs you purhcased).

Insert a blank CD in the CD-R drive. Wait about 15 seconds.
Click the "Create CD" icon on the toolbar. The CD Creation Setup Window will appear.

Choose Track-At-Once and Close CD if you want 2 second gaps to be inserted between songs. If you do not choose Close CD, the CD will not be playable on a standard CD player.

Choose Disk-At-Once if you want no gaps between songs.

Click OK to start burning your CD. The burn process will take between 5 and 20 minutes depending on the speed of your CDR and the amount of information you are recording.

Burn a Data CD
You can create a Data CD backup of any data files on your computer. The files must be smaller than the capacity of the CDs you purchased (either 640MB or 700MB).
Launch Easy CD Creator (typically Start -> Programs -> Adaptec -> Create CD)
Choose "Data CD"

Navigate to the location of your files using the folders in the top left pane. Drag the files from the top right pane down to the bottom pane. The status bar at the bottom of the screen will indicate the remaining time left on the CD (you can record either 640 or 700 MB on a CD depending on the type of CDs you purchased).

Right-Click on the CD Title in the Bottom Right pane and choose "Properties"

If you'd like, type a name for your CD (up to 16 characters).

Under File System, choose Joliet to preserve long file names. The CD will only be readable on Windows machines. Choose ISO9660 to make a CD which will read on Windows, Unix, or Macintosh machines. This will truncate all file names to 8 characters. (Generally Joliet is a better format for archiving Windows projects)

Click Help for information about other options in this Window.

Click OK.

Insert a blank CD in the CD-R drive. Wait about 15 seconds.
Click the "Create CD" icon on the toolbar. The CD Creation Setup Window will appear.

Choose Disk-At-Once to close the CD.

Click OK to start burning your CD. The burn process will take between 5 and 20 minutes depending on the speed of your CDR and the amount of information you are recording.
